PP3DP | Mentioned on BBC
Monday, 27 September 2010 18:08

PP3DP was mentioned on BBC on 7 September 2010. We are sorry only to notice it today.

"In about three weeks time when the world has been made anew you will be able to reflect that this was the moment everything changed. The good people at PP3DP have made a cheap personal portable 3D printer. Paul Raven at Futurismic notes that it is cheap enough to end up in favelas all over the world."

Painting | Giving 3D model life
Monday, 27 September 2010 17:15

All work and no play make jack a dull boy. Indeed, all days work makes me a little dull. When I notice the ogre in colours on thingiverse by staffert, it reminds me of the new hobby which I nearly dropped. I like painting, but it is a long time that I haven’t painted anything. I think it is time for me to relax.

An ogre is a very large and scary monster. But painting is a very interesting thing, I can exert my imagination and paint at will. So under my paint brush I want to turn this scary monster into a very ridiculous image, with plaid shorts, single-eye, fashionable beard and so on. When I thought that, I was freaking excited and anxiously to wait every minute to pass by (I printed it as the original size which took me about 3 hours and 30 minutes). But time was too late when it was finished printing, and I stepped back to paint it the same colours as the one on thingivese. Though a little disappointed I haven’t painted it as I wish, it became lively through my hands. I feel a little sense of achievement.

UP! colours
Saturday, 25 September 2010 19:08

UP! is the first and unique 3d printer which is abundant of colours. We are proud of our various colors, and many UPers are proud of their choice.

Everyone has his favorite colour. Colour makes one distinct from all others, colour makes the world beautiful. Everyone thinks twice before he makes a choice. Gradually they form their own favorite color. As for me, I am blue and green. So what’s your color?

Just as I am going to post this article, I think a great news will make many people excite. Next year we will have more colorful printers available according to customers’ requirement, and special pattern can be painted on printer if anyone requires.

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to every one
Tuesday, 21 September 2010 15:05

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow is Chinese traditional festival, Mid-Autumn Festival. All our staff in PP3DP wishes everyone a happy Middle Autumn Day here.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, or in Chinese, Zhongqiujie (traditional Chinese: ???). It is one of the most important Chinese festivals on the Chinese calendar.

The day is also considered as a symbol of family reunion. We will have the chance to enjoy a full moon, and it is said the moon of that day is the biggest during the whole year. In Chinese culture, a full moon symbolizes unity, peace and prosperity. Thus, the Mid-autumn festival is an auspicious day in China. So every year, when the festival comes people go home from every corner of the country and the world to meet their family. We all have an overwhelming desire to reunion together. Then we eat moon cakes and watch TV show, hearing from the news. It is indeed a wonderful day.

Again wish everyone a happy Mid-Autumn Festival.

Clean up the nozzle
Thursday, 16 September 2010 15:18

After days and nights printing, now maybe the nozzle has been covered with a layer of oxidized ABS. When printer is printing, the oxidized ABS will be melt on the nozzle, and may spot the model. So sometimes you need to clean up the nozzle.

Firstly, preheat the nozzle in order to melt the oxidized ABS. Extrude material and the nozzle will be heated.

Then lower the platform to the bottom.

Lastly, find some heat-resistant material, like 100 percent cotton cloth or soft paper. A pair of tweezers will also be required. Then clip paper or some other heat-resistant things with tweezers to clean up the nozzle.

Remove model off the platform
Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:44

From our forum we got to know many UP! users remove the platform when they get the model off the platform. Actually we don’t remove the platform until we clean up the coat on it. We just shovel the model off the platform on the printer while the platform is still hot. That’s OK even the platform cools down, just preheat the platform to 100 degrees.

We would like to introduce how to remove model off the platform with words and pictures in the following.

1. Please make sure the platform is still hot. Prize the edge of a model open with a sharp knife if the raft is too stick on the platform.

UP! software is improving
Monday, 13 September 2010 16:52

Hello everyone,

Now we have updated our software to meet more customers’ requirement.

1. A "Restore Default" function is added in setting dialog.

2. A spin is added beside height input box in maintain dialog, which is used to adjust 0.1mm every click. A button of "Set to Nozzle Height" is added. Setting the nozzle height will be easier.

3. More quality options are available in print dialogue.

4. Add Preview function to estimate print time and used materials.

5. Show printer status and remain print time in status bar.

6. Optimize scan path to reduce the melt of tiny structure on top of model.

We print an identical part with the old software (V1.06) and updated software (V1.07) respectively, find the difference through the comparison.

The above is printed with V1.06, 0.3 mm layer thickness, it takes us 7 minutes. Its top melts.

This is printed with V1.07, 0.3 mm layer thickness, it takes us 14 minutes. The top is a little twisted.

When print two or more models together, it will be better.

Put these three models together, can you distinguish which is printed with updated software?
