Ever since we released our first generation of UP 3D printer in 2010, has been our central hub for all the Uppers for more than 5 years. It is the time that we rethink of the future of UP 3D Printer, and hence the will be focusing on users of UP 3D Printers. We will create a global community for all the Uppers around the world to innovate, to share ideas and, most importantly, to have fun.

Building is an ongoing process, and it needs a lot of efforts and patience. How much UP! 3d printing costs?

How much does the UP! printing cost? This is one of the most concerned topic, here we will give you answer.

We are printing one 30 cm (1.181in) cube for example. Layer thickness is 0.2 mm, base thickness is 2mm.The major difference is inner fill structure.

Model info: 303030mm layer thickness: 2mm

The cost varies with different "Fill" patterns. From left to right is "solid->loose->hollow->big hole" showing inner structure, the weight and time are for the total model. The price is calculated to our ABS, 35 USD for 700g(all the data includes the raft cost).

The model needs no support. For some model, there will be some support, which will add a little cost. You can select the support angle, but please note the support material costs only a little, too smaller support angle may cause printing failure.

V1.14 for Windows and V1.1 for Mac come out, please download it here. Bug is fixed and new features are added.

Version 1.14 for Windows:

1. Fix the bug that the material setting can't update immediately.

2. "Extrude" and "Withdraw" are activated when pausing. That means you can change material during printing.

3. The platform position info is shown in "Maintenance" dialog box.

4. "Preheating" time is limited to up to 15 minutes, then the "preheating" will shut down automatically which avoids waste of energy.

5. An inspect app, named "UP Inpsector.exe" is installed in the "UP" folder as the UP.exe. It shows information about the printer and can inspect some issues. If someone has error with his printer, please close the UP! software and run this program immediately, the UP! Inspector can help check the errors. Please remember to print a screen and send us a screenshot of the inspected result, it can help us check and solve problems faster and easier. Btw, more features of the UP! inspector will be added.

6. Spare part models of UP! printer are added in the "UP/example/UP spare part" folder. Here below is a newly added extruder cover which shields the hot heating element from being touched by kids or by accident. The file names are "wind barrier V4" and "extruder cover V4".

The new feeder designing is completed and will be put into production soon. The file names are "feeder V4" and "feeder cover V4".

Version 1.1 for Mac:

Almost all functions available in windows software are added to the Mac version.

New Filament Feeder Coming Soon

Hey folks!

Here brings you a product upgrade announcement that should bring you some excitement.

The first filament feeder is combined with a DC motor and a mechanical switch, which may be not able to withstand too long time press on/off. Many users have once reported this problem in the forum and send email to us for warranty replacement. We did not find a better solution to solve this problem, and ever thought to remove this automatic feeder to avoid the unhappy customer experience, but many users still insisted to using this automatic feeder. Thank you very much for your support, now we finally solve this problem and bring you a new filament feeder. This one will work well for you.

The new feeder uses stepper motor and micro switch which is of higher quality and durability, will be able to feed filament steadily and effectively. Compared with the last version, it avoids the issue that the feeder automatically works unexpectedly in the first seconds when it is connected to the power. Please go ahead to see the photos here below.

The frame part is still printed by itself.

Limit switch is replaced by a micro switch.

DC motor is replaced by a stepper motor.

Hi All,

Will you tell the world how fast is the lead time of UP! 3d printer, and how well is the UP! 3d printers after sale support?

Maybe most are interested in this topic, especially those who plan to own an UP! 3d printer. For online purchase, I think these two questions are most concerned, at least I am.

Now the UP! 3d printer has been in the market for a little more than one year, we can tell you our answers, I think those who already owned the UP! 3d printer also would like to answer your questions.

In the past year, the average lead time of the UP! 3d printer is only one week, according to our record. Most UP! 3d printers can be delivered through DHL to their users within one week after we receive the payment, nearly all the machines can reach their users within 2 weeks. Of course, the shipment of the first 100 UP! 3d printers is not included, which took a longer time, it was due to we just started the sales and had inadequate stock.

As for the after sale support, we provide all our customers with 12 months warranty support. We have been providing very timely services, and trying our best to solve all the customers problem in a very timely manner. We are welcome the comments in the forum.

By the way, here is good news to all. For some UPers, they hope to have a longer warranty support, now we are offering extra one year warranty service, which can be purchased soon in the UP! web store.

Version 1.13, lastest upgrade

According to the feedbacks and advice from the customers, new features and improvements are added in the lastest version:

1. In the tool bar, you can get the detailed system information in "about" dialog box. (Please pay attention to the Rom version and Firmware Version, it will be involve below)

2. "Stop print" is added, it is equal to the "stop all" in "maintenance".

3. Two test line will be printed before model/raft printing to avoid the issue that not enough materila is extruded in the first seconds.

4. The material opiton is moved to "maintenance"->"new spool".

5. If the firmware of your printer is lower than 3.0, you need to use "tools"->"update ROM" to make your ROM version suit the material, version 6.01 for ABS and version 6.02 for PLA. Please remember to update the ROM when material is changed. If the firmware version is 3.0, the ROM is Version 6.03, no need to update the ROM when changing material. The ROM file is in "Program File"->"UP"->"System".

6. The "Fill" and "Angle option are showed in graphic mode in "set up" dialog box.

7. Add "Pause" and "Resume" option in "Maintenance". The two options will be activated after printing. After pausing, the XYZ axis can move, but the "extrude" and "withdraw" are not available.When you pause printing, we suggest to move the platform away from the position where it stops in order to avoid the model being burned. If you use "stop all" or "stop" in the tool bar, it can't resume printing again.

8. Fix the bug that the "extrude/withdraw" function always use the temperature of ABS. In Version 1.11 and 1.12, the nozzle temperature for "extrude/withdraw" is set the same when using PLA and ABS, around 280 centigrade degree. In 1.13, the bug is fixed, different temperate for the materials.

9. You can print the parts used on the printer yourself, the files are in the "Program File"->"UP"->"Example", no need to download them from the website.

Run the UP! software in your MAC right now

Hi UPers,

After a long time expectation, the UP! software now supports running on the MAC. Although the MAC V1.0 doesn't have so many features like the UP! software Windows V1.12, it has a even simplified interface and also very easy to use. Now let's take a look at the differences between MAC V1.0 and Windows V1.12 here below.

1. Models are displayed in transparent mode, and the selected model is in highlighted normal render mode.

2. There are three info boxes on the left: printer, the selected model info, model list.

3. The numbers and move scale rotate are equivalent to the functions in the Windows Version. The X+ and X- indicate the direction.

4. Rotate: move mouse with left button.

Move: move mouse with right button, or move mouse with left button and control key.

Zoom: roll wheel, move mouse with center button, move mouse with left button and option key or move two finger on touch pad.

5. Material option is in the "Maintenance->New Spool" menu. Please remember to change it when changing material.

6. The "Nozzle Height" setting is in "3D print->print" other than "Setup" menu. In "maintenance" menu, you can see the maximum value you can fill. The maximum value is determined by the value filled in Nozzle Height, 1mm higher than it. When the nozzle is not close enough to the platform, you cant input a bigger value, please amend the value in the Nozzle Height bigger.

7. Add "animate" function in "View" menu. When clicking, the models will rotate and be viewed in all directions automatically.

Compared with Windows V1.12, the features of "Calibration", "Print Preview", "Merge", "Fix" , "Update Rom" and "Insert Copies" are not shown on the MAC V1.0, but the MAC version UP! software will be also keeping upgrading like the Windows version upgraded from V1.06 to V1.12.

Hey, Upers,

Here below is the new version platform heating cable, it has been tested and then used on the printers for some time. Since the platform moves a lot, the cable needs to be of high abrasion resistance. Now its flat with four wires paralleling. From the feedback so far, it turns out more durable than that with black skin.

We are really thankful for your feedback and support. We have been and will always be working on improving our product, the printer, software and our service. The version of software that can be used on MAC will be released soon.

Instructions for new Uppers who has the problem, please follow the steps below:

One. Uninstall Older Driver And Install New Driver

1. Open Control panel of windows, start System Properties dialog box, then select Hardware page.

2. Click Device Manager button, the followed dialog box popup. Find the 3DPrinter@FreeMC at USB section.


3. Click the right button of mouse, select the Uninstall menu. The windows popup confirm dialog box, click Yes.

4. Install the UP! Software V1.11.

5. Unplug the USB cable, then plug again. Windows will find a new device. Manually select driver folder(Default is C:\Program files\UP\Driver or C:\Program fiels(X86)\UP\Driver);

6. There is a new section in the device manager.

Two. Update the driver directly.

1. Install the UP software V1.11.

2. Found the 3DPrint@FreeMC in the Device Manager dialog box(in the USB section).

3. Select Update Driver.. in the right click menu.

4. Select the up driver folder(the default is C:\program files\UP\Driver).

5. A Free Motion Card section is inserted in the Device Manager.

V1.11, latest upgraded UP! software

Hey UPers,

Now UP! software has been upgraded into V1.11, please download it from our website, here below is some new features.

1. Update ROM. Open the UP! software V1.11, select Tools -> Update ROM->Program file -> UP -> system -> UP! plus_R_110513.ROM. When updating completes, unplug the power supply then plug it back.

2. Print PLA or ABS material. In the printing dialogue, select ABS or PLA as printing material. The temperature for printing PLA is 200 centigrade, printing ABS has no change, still 270 centigrade. Temperature will be fixed automatically once material is selected each time. Btw, we will release PLA material in the coming months.

3. No raft option. No raft option allows models being printed without raft

4. Add FIX feature. Once STL model is opened using UP! software and there is red on the model, it shows model has facets problem. Most of such problems can be fixed by FIX option. Most models will be back to normal color, no red on the model if it can be FIXed.

5. Merge several models into one. After several models are upload into the UP! software, select merge option to merge several models into one.

6. Copy option. Open STL model using UP! software, click the right button to insert 1-8 copies.

7. Save all. Save all the models together, just select File -> Save All, then all the models can be saved at once. Format of saved model is .UP3, models can be found in the folder where the original files are. Please note if several models are in the same name, then only one model will be saved.

8. Optimize nozzle height setting. When the platform is very near the nozzle, the distance between platform and nozzle is difficult to detect, just select Set to Nozzle Height, then printer will print test lines semi-automatically, by checking width of the printed test line the nozzle height can be set accurately.
